Fat Kids Are Harder To Kidnap® is a comedy so current it isn’t finished yet. With the 2026 script being written right up to opening night, audiences can expect to be tickled with the latest headlines. The format is just as unpredictable: 31 short plays in an hour, performed in whatever order the audience shouts out, against a countdown clock. No two nights are ever the same.

The show, Singapore’s longest-running topical comedy, now in its 18th year, returns for two weekends, from Oct 16 at the Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre at Wildrice @ Funan.

Here’s how it works and why you can’t sit quietly. On stage, the numbers 1 to 31 hang like laundry on a line. Every audience member gets a list of 31 plays in their programme. When one play ends, the actors shout “Next!” and the room shouts back the number of the play they want to watch. A countdown clock runs the whole hour. Beat the clock and you get to watch everything; run out of time and the unplayed sketches are lost forever. Shouting is required.

Because the material is written to the minute, expect the sharpest, most current hour of comedy in town: the Roxy Square wanton mee drama; the World Cup’s biggest moments; the long-awaited BTS comeback; programmes to raise the fertility rate in Singapore; cute viral monkeys and racoons — and whatever breaks between now and the final curtain, all of it written by Jay, Melissa Sim and devised by the cast.

Bringing the chaos to life are seasoned performers, the kind the format demands, since holding an hour of live, audience-directed comedy together against a countdown clock leaves nowhere to hide. 

The ensemble includes Ross Nasir, Jo Tan, Teh Jun Vinh, Fahim Murshed and newcomer Yeo Zhiyi, whose timing and improvisational nerve keep the show afloat night after night, as they make it to the finish line together with the audience.

Fat Kids Are Harder To Kidnap® 是一部“永远尚未完成”的时事喜剧。2026年的剧本将持续创作至首演之夜，观众可以期待被最新新闻热点逗笑。演出的形式同样充满不可预测性：31个短剧将在一小时内完成演出，观众可以在倒数计时器运行期间大喊想观看的剧目编号，演员将按照现场选择的顺序演出。因此，每一晚的演出都不会相同。

这部新加坡历史最悠久的时事喜剧今年迎来第18个演出年，将于10月16日起连续两个周末在 Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre at Wild Rice @ Funan 上演。

演出方式以及为什么观众不能安静观看

舞台上，1至31号的数字牌会像晾在绳子上的衣物一样排列。每位观众都会在节目单中获得一份包含31个剧目名称的列表。

当一个剧目结束后，演员会喊出 “Next!”，观众则需要回应自己想观看的下一个剧目编号。倒数计时器会贯穿整整一小时。

如果能够在时间结束前完成所有剧目，观众就能欣赏完整演出；如果时间耗尽，尚未演出的短剧将永远消失。

观众需要大声喊出自己的选择。
