The Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) is pleased to present the inaugural Kampong Gelam Festival (KGF) this weekend (12 & 13 September), featuring a heritage-rich programming that celebrates the district’s journey from royal beginnings and trading past to its vibrant present as a cultural and creative hub.
Themed ‘Through the Eras’, the festival brings together performances, workshops, guided tours and community showcases across the Kampong Gelam precinct. Highlights include:
Comeback performances by local music veterans Art Fazil and J. Mizan, the latter marking an exclusive return by the 1970s EMI recording star
Immersive theatrical storytelling, including dramatised retellings of Kampong Gelam folklore and a Bangsawan performance tracing Singapura’s first king, Sang Nila Utama
Guided trails and museum tours, including the Kampong Gelam Eras Trail and a 45-minute journey through the world’s first Asian operatic museum
Community showcases and heritage booths spotlighting the Orang Kallang, Bawean, Banjar, Batak, Bugis, Javanese, Minang and Arab communities
Hands-on workshops, from a rebana drumming circle to an oud masterclass

Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) 很高兴于本周末(12 & 13 September)呈献首届 Kampong Gelam Festival (KGF)。本届节庆以丰富的文化遗产活动,庆祝这个地区从皇室渊源、贸易历史,到如今发展成为充满活力的文化与创意中心的历程。
本届节庆以 “Through the Eras” 为主题,在 Kampong Gelam 区域带来一系列精彩活动,包括表演、工作坊、导览及社区文化展示。活动亮点包括:
- 本地资深音乐人的回归演出,包括 Art Fazil 和 J. Mizan。后者将特别回归舞台,这位曾于 1970 年代为 EMI 录制唱片的音乐人将再次献上演出。
