New initiative on 3 October 2026 invites visitors to experience art, mindfulness, and wellbeing at a different pace

National Gallery Singapore presents Slow Saturday, a new initiative inviting visitors to experience art and the museum at a different pace through mindful encounters with art, creative activities, and moments for rest and reflection. Taking place on 3 October 2026 ahead of World Mental Health Day, the first edition of Slow Saturday brings together dedicated programmes alongside the Gallery’s existing offerings, inviting visitors to discover how art and museum spaces can offer opportunities for reflection, connection, and personal wellbeing.
As a People’s Museum, the Gallery is committed to creating an accessible and welcoming space where people can experience art in ways that are meaningful to them. Alongside opportunities for learning and discovery, the Gallery continues to explore how art and its spaces can support moments of contemplation, connection, and rest. Slow Saturday brings these experiences together under a dedicated initiative, encouraging visitors to slow down, take time for themselves, and discover different ways of experiencing art and the Gallery.
Aun Koh, Assistant Chief Executive, Marketing and Development, National Gallery Singapore, says: “Museums may not be the first places that come to mind when we think about wellbeing, but art has a unique ability to encourage us to stop, look, and be present. At the Gallery, we want to create opportunities for people to experience art in ways that feel meaningful to them, whether that means discovering something new, finding a moment of quiet, or simply taking time for themselves. Slow Saturday brings this idea to the fore, inviting visitors to experience the Gallery at a different pace and discover how art can create space for reflection, creativity, and rest.”
Making its debut at Slow Saturday is Music for Mindfulness: The Gallery Edition, a new collaboration between National Gallery Singapore and The TENG Company that explores the relationship between art, music, and wellbeing. It features four original music compositions which draw inspiration from artworks in the Gallery’s collection. Visitors can experience these compositions at the newly launched Soundscapes of Art listening space, located next to the Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours to Art exhibition, and at the Gallery’s Calm Room. The artworks that inspired the compositions are also on view in Singapore Stories, offering visitors a unique sensory approach to art and wellbeing.
Throughout the day, visitors can choose from a range of programmes that invite different forms of participation, from slowing down through movement and making to quiet reflection and meaningful conversations about the body and wellbeing. Against the backdrop of the Gallery’s rooftop at sunset, a yoga and sound bath session combines gentle movement with the sounds of Temple by Tuan Andrew Nguyen and sound healing instruments. Panel Discussion: Bodies, Bodies, Bodies creates space for a different form of reflection, bringing together speakers to explore feminine wellness, the changing female body, and the complexities of women’s experiences of their bodies.
Visitors looking to engage through making can also join Mindful Making: Banner Upcycling Workshop, transforming retired PVC banners into unique creations, while younger visitors aged 6 to 12 years old can take part in A Journey of Wonder & Mindfulness, a two-hour drop-off workshop led by holistic arts educator Jolie Michelle Ow that invites children to explore art through movement, sound, nature, and mindfulness, while nurturing curiosity, focus, confidence, and self-expression.
The first edition of Slow Saturday will also see the Gallery partner homegrown wellness brand Moom, bringing together the Gallery’s exploration of art and wellbeing with Moom’s focus on making wellness more accessible in everyday life. Visitors can discover the brand at the Moom Discovery Pop-Up, with product discovery and sampling tailored to different wellness needs throughout the day. Participants of the yoga and sound bath session and Panel Discussion: Bodies, Bodies, Bodies will also receive a selection of Moom products to discover and sample.
Beyond these activities specially curated for Slow Saturday, visitors can also explore the Gallery’s year-round offerings and find their own moments to pause. At Sketch Chapter: Collective, visitors are invited to spend time sketching, while quiet spots such as the Supreme Court Terrace and Singapore Courtyard offer places to sit, take in their surroundings, and experience the Gallery at their own pace.
