Changi Chapel and Museum (CCM) and Reflections at Bukit Chandu (RBC) are proud to present Liberation of Singapore on 13 and 14 September 2025, a programme commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in Singapore. This initiative invites the public to engage with Singapore’s wartime history through thought-provoking conversations and immersive heritage experiences.

On 12 September 1945, following Japan’s announcement of surrender on 15 August that same year, the Japanese formally surrendered in Singapore. This marked the end of the occupation, which had begun in February 1942. Liberation of Singapore encourages reflection on the themes of identity, resistance, and reconciliation. It serves as a platform for remembrance and education, highlighting the importance of passing on the stories that continue to shape Singapore’s collective memory.

Ms. Asmah Alias, Director of Galleries, Exhibitions and Museums (GEM), HeritageSG said: “CCM and RBC are significant museums that preserve and present the stories of Singapore’s wartime past. By coming together to launch Liberation of Singapore, we are not only revisiting an important chapter of our past, but also exploring how its lessons and legacies continue to shape our present and future. Through this programme, we hope to create safe and meaningful spaces for reflection, education, and dialogue, inspiring a deeper connection to our shared heritage.”
