Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is pleased to present SAM Contemporaries: How To Dream Worlds, an exhibition featuring newly commissioned works by six emerging Singaporean artists: Chok Si Xuan, Chu Hao Pei, Masuri Mazlan, NEO_ARTEFACTS, Syahrul Anuar, and PG Lee. This edition delves into the act of dreaming, inviting audiences to explore what it means to reimagine modes of living, relating, and perceiving, prompting audiences to consider the process of dreaming as a means of resistance, speculation and lingering uncertainties of now and the future.

Spanning installation, moving image, and more, the featured works transport audiences into unique worlds—from using wild lalang to question systems of control, to unpacking the complexities of diplomacy through different renditions of nasi goreng. Each artist draws from diverse materials, mediums, and personal research to construct compelling narratives that challenge conventional ways of seeing and being.

Developed over two years in close collaboration with SAM’s curatorial team, the works are the result of sustained dialogue and ongoing experimentation. This process-oriented approach responds to the challenges of our time and opens up possibilities for alternative futures.

How To Dream Worlds is the second edition of SAM Contemporaries, a biennial platform dedicated to supporting emerging Singaporean artists by commissioning new works and nurturing experimental practices through ongoing curatorial engagement. Through initiatives like this, SAM provides artists the space to pursue their distinct research and artistic inquiries—ranging from custom electronics to mixed media explorations—reflecting the rich diversity of Singapore’s contemporary art scene.
