Get ready for Singapore’s inaugural Nature Film Festival, Earth in Focus, a vibrant celebration of the beauty and power of nature as seen through film, photography, and artistic expression. Open to the public from 2-3 November, the festival will feature Singapore’s first-ever Nature Film Competition and shed light on urgent global issues like climate change, biodiversity and sustainability – all told through the eyes of diverse and passionate storytellers. Suitable for all ages, the festival is great for families with young children keen to explore and learn about the wonders of nature in fun, engaging ways.

What to expect:

  • Film Screenings: Experience captivating films that explore humanity’s connection with nature, addressing key topics like ocean and land conservation, water scarcity, and technology-driven solutions for environmental protection. Featured films include:
    • SENTOSA, a closer look at the lesser known side of Sentosa Island as well as the various conservation efforts undertaken by Sentosa Development Corporation to protect the island’s natural assets
    • Revealed: Reefshot which explores how a small fleet of scientists, activists and indigenous people set out to document and preserve the Great Barrier Reef with the help of artificial intelligence
    • Marcher sur l’eau which follows the story of 12-year-old Houlaye, who walks several kilometres every day to fetch water in the small, semi-nomadic settlement of Tatis, Niger
  • Photography & Ecological Art Exhibitions: Enjoy stunning nature photography exhibitions and an inspiring ecological art installation, both focused on fostering a deeper appreciation for conservation efforts and the beauty of the natural world.
  • Panel Sessions: Esteemed representatives from the conservation community will be speaking on panels that cover topics such as human wildlife coexistence, the illegal wildlife trade and how storytelling fuels community-driven environmental action.
  • Masterclasses & Workshops: Hosted by Sentosa and conservation NGOs, visitors can participate in hands-on masterclasses and workshops designed to encourage them to play a role in conservation and sustainability. In-depth masterclasses offer valuable skills and knowledge for those passionate about environmental efforts, while family-friendly workshops are designed to inspire children to take part in protecting the planet.   • MURK!: Learn how to capture marine life with this underwater photography masterclass led by a panel of expert photographers

o   Drawing Climate Stories: Explore how visual arts and comics can effectively communicate complex climate and environmental issues

  • [Campfire Discussion] Tech for Storytelling – Leaning into AI: This power-packed panel will see popular content creator, BioGirl MJ, Emmy-Nominated Film Editor, Julie Busse, and Simon Phua, Former Lead Data Scientist of Tik Tok & Instagram to unpack how they use tech to create engaging content, and understand the mechanics behind how social media platforms work. This panel will be moderated by an AI specialist.
