“NO FLASH” — you’ve seen the signs, but what backstory haunts those words? What stories do galleries hide, behind brushstrokes and between sight lines? Third Eye is Season 2 of the National Gallery Singapore’s podcast series NO FLASH, drawing inspiration from artworks in Singapore’s National Collection. The first season, Unstill Life, launched in 2021, offers an audio snapshot of Southeast Asian art and culture, bringing artworks to life through a unique and unexpected lens. 

In Third Eye, experience the thrill of speculative fiction by looking beyond the obvious, as artworks from the Gallery’s collection are reimagined anew. These mysterious, macabre and magnificent tales are spun by some of Singapore’s most exciting writers, including Bani HaykalDiana RahimLisabelle TayManish MelwaniNg Yi-Sheng, and Wen-yi Lee, with original scoring and sound design by Mervin Wong. Spanning six episodes, these stories are the result of an intensive writing workshop led by Dr Nazry Bahrawi in collaboration with the Gallery’s Curatorial Programmes team. 

Third Eye will be released in the week leading up to the Singapore Writers Festival 2024, forefronting the intersections of visual arts and literary arts to present fresh encounters with art in Singapore. Episodes 1 to 3 will be released on 29 October and Episodes 4 to 6 will be released on 5 November on various podcast platforms, including Apple PodcastsSpotifyAmazon Music, and Luminary, reaching listeners worldwide, from Singapore, United States, India, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany.
