Singapore Writers Festival (SWF 2024) is back for its 27th edition from 8 to 17 November 2024, inviting Festivalgoers to reflect on what is truly in our nature — as humans, as writers and readers, as global citizens — navigating the world we live in today.
Proudly presented by Arts House Limited (AHL) and commissioned by the National Arts Council (NAC), SWF 2024 is anchored by the theme, In Our Nature, offering a multifaceted lens for audiences to contemplate what it means to be human as well as our relationship with the natural environment. Featuring over 300 international and local speakers, Festivalgoers can look forward to more than 200 thought-provoking programmes that continue to push the boundaries of creative writing, exploring intersections between literature and other disciplines, and promote multilingual and cross-generational exchange.
At the helm for the first time this year is Festival Director Yong Shu Hoong, who reflects, “As I step into my new role as Festival Director, I am grateful for the strong foundation laid by my predecessors. I hope to honour their work while infusing my own vision for SWF, creating a Festival that balances broad appeal and intellectual rigour. I am excited to work together with our exceptional Festival team, valued partners and the ever-supportive Singapore literary community to deliver a Festival that addresses timely issues and provides a welcoming and inclusive environment for meaningful dialogue among long-time fans and new audiences.”
The Festival was launched this evening (3 September 2024), at a physical media launch at Goodman Arts Centre, which consisted of an address by Yong, hands-on activities related to the theme, and a reception with some writers, Festival partners and distinguished guests.
