After its showstopping first season amassed over an incredible 16 billion views, the original cast return later this week for the eagerly awaited sequel

– “Joy of Life 2”

Four years after electrifying viewers with its compelling story of intrigue, drama, deception and life-or-death scenarios, Joy of Life 2 will return to screens with a five-episode premiere on 16 May on Disney+.

A captivating period drama set during China’s Qing Dynasty, Joy of Life follows Fan Xian, a man born during an ancient time who somehow has memories of the 21^st century. Raised in a rural town and constantly protected by a blind martial arts expert, Xian sets off on a quest to the capital to find out more about his dead mother and to understand why he sees a world that has yet come to pass. In season two, audiences will find out more about the mysterious Xian, including if he survived the heart stopping season one cliffhanger!

Starring Zhang Ruoyun (1921, Perfect Evidence) as Fan Xian; Li Qin (The Youth Memories, Miles to Go) as Lin Wan’er; Chen Daoming (Back to 1942, My Best Friend’s Story) as the Emperor, and Xin Zhilei (Blossom Shanghai, The Wolf) as Haitang, Joy of Life 2 also sees the return of series one screenwriter Wang Juan and director Sun Hao.

A breathtaking story told across 36 episodes, Joy of Life 2 debuts with a five-part premiere this Thursday, May 16, with new episodes releasing every day through the season finale.
